About Mia Michael
Mia Michaels is an American choreographer who was born on February 22, 1966. She was born in Coconut Grove, Florida and grew up in a family of dancers. At the age of three, her father, Joe Michaels, taught her jazz, tap, and ballet. Her sister, Dana Michaels, taught her contemporary dance. While she grew up, she studied at many dance schools including Interlochen Center for the Arts in Massachusetts, Miami Performing Arts Centre and the New World School of the Arts.
Mia is very well-known for her judging and contemporary choreography on the FOX hit TV show So You Think You Can Dance. She has worked with extremely talented artists including Madonna, Celine Dion, Ricky Martin, Tom Cruise and many more. In 2005, she choreographed Cirque du Soleil's world tour and Celine Dion's Las Vegas show called "A New Day". Mia worked at as a regular judge on So You Think You Can Dance for its seventh season, but decided to leave the show in November 2010 because she felt she did not belong on the panel and also wanted to focus on other projects. One of her most recent project was acting in the movie "Step Up 4". Instead of giving direction for the movie, she played the role of Olivia who had a dance school in the movie. She also continues to do choreography for So You Think You Can Dance.
